Equipment to make your own skincare at home

The good news is that you do not need a lot of equipment to start, and you can keep adding to your equipment as you become more proficient. Below is a list of equipment I use, but one of the most important pieces of equipment are pipettes. I always have a test 5 to 10 handy when I formulate, and I prefer to use glass ones that I can clean and sterilise rather than the plastic throw aways pipettes. You can purchase all of these on Amazon or you can search for local small businesses who sell equipment you need.

Equipment

  • a small surface in your skincare kitchen
  • isopropyl alcohol 70% (once you start using this, you never stop)
  • apron
  • gloves
  • jewellery scales or if you are making larger quantities a scale which is stronger.
  • multiple sized heat proof glass beakers with a pouring spouts
  • whisks (multiple sizes)
  • pipettes
  • lab spoons and stirring rods (can use sterilised kitchen utensils)
  • small pan with water and stove top (also called a double boiler)
  • bottles, tubes, glass jars pump bottles, etc to transfer your amazing formulations.
  • mini homogeniser
  • large electric disks – for the body butters.

It’s important to spray all your equipment, working surfaces and product containers before you start. Let it air dry and then you are ready to start.
